Our Approach / Philosophy
We are eager to embrace a new approach to fundraising that is in keeping with the goals and values we have for appreciating respectful relations, honouring everyone’s contribution and engaging everyone in the process equally. Rather than design a campaign based on a tiered structure, we are embracing our fundraising without tiers or levels based on amount given.
This is an opportunity to do something different and to start “two-eyed seeing” from the beginning. Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall defines Two-Eyed Seeing as “learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing, and from the other eye with the strengths of mainstream knowledges and ways of knowing, and to use both these eyes together, for the benefit of all” (Bartlett et al.,)
This way of viewing fundraising also reinforces a better way to approach learning and ecology in that we are all in this together equally and all have a contribution to make big or small. How we begin this project will determine how we execute our vision. In our fundraising plan we are modelling what we are trying to achieve in this project – stepping away from traditional western hierarchical models and seeing through fresh eyes.
You are valued and we hope that you will join us on the circle. We are very grateful for every contribution.
Hierarchical Tiered Fundraising Campaigns
- Typically 4 to 6 levels
- Arranged largest donor to lowest amount
- Recognition proportional to donation
No Tiers or Levels : All Equal
- No Levels -all donations treated the same
- Appreciation given without being rank ordered
- Recognition the same for all in a creative, inspiring way
