Fundraising and Publicity Intern

Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Fundraiser and Publicity Intern. This position is located in Bobcaygeon, Ontario and will work under the direction of the Board of Directors of the Mishkodeh Centre for Indigenous Knowledge, Inc (MCIK). The intern will be responsible for assisting the Centre in developing strategies for fundraising and publicity of the Mishkodeh project. Specifically, the intern will research funding and grant possibilities for the Mishkodeh project in all sectors and tabulate contact information, etc. They will assist with website development and maintenance, social media and other digital skills related to promoting the aims of the Mishkodeh Centre in the broader community. The MCIK undertakes to assist the intern with training in various areas of digital skills in order to carry out the duties outlined below. 

Summary of Duties

  • Provide assistance to the Fundraising and Publicity Committee of the Mishkodeh in planning and executing a campaign of fundraising and publicity through the website and social media in particular;
  • Provide assistance with website development, maintenance, and trouble shooting;
  • Provide assistance with digital skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Spread Sheets, Google Sheets;
  • Help to create interactive, impactful virtual presentations on the Mishkodeh;
  • Help set up a prominent social media presence for the Mishkodeh project;
  • Assist in the area of video production for social media;
  • Conduct an outreach campaign for effective fundraising with the assistance of the Directors and Fundraising and Publicity Committee of MCIK;
  • Report to the Directors regularly on the status of the fundraising campaign with the appropriate spread sheets, etc.;
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of educational and publicity events;
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • The intern must be between 15 and 30 years old;
  • The intern must have completed post-secondary education;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the aims and objectives of TRC Bobcaygeon and the Mishkodeh Centre for Indigenous Knowledge;
  • Knowledge and experience in the area of digital skills as they apply to the promotion of the Mishkodeh project;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use new media and current technology, such as Word,Excel, Twitter, Facebook, file management systems and databases;- 
  • Strong communication skills in English, including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings, styles and media; the ability to read, speak and/or write in Anishnaabemowin would be considered an asset;
  • Exemplary interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
  • Lived experience as an Indigenous worker and/or experience working with Indigenous communities;
  • Knowledge, experience in and commitment to human rights struggles, Indigenous rights issues;
  • Knowledge and skills required to develop and communicate the MCIK’s positions on equity issues, relationship building between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in the region;
  • Free to travel and work weekends and holidays as required.

Conditions of Employment

  • A 40-hour work week;
  • A weekly salary of $1000.00;
  • Working remotely is the preferred method at present.
