This August on Friday the 25th Dave Mowat will be centre stage with his trio at the Once in a Blue Moon gala fundraising dinner event for the Mishkodeh Centre for Indigenous Knowledge. Not only is Dave Mowat an accomplished Blues performer with a passion for the post-war music of the ’40s and ’50s, he is also former Chief of Alderville First Nation.

He brought a wealth of knowledge to his role as Chief. His understanding of history and his passion for sharing a full and accurate picture of the true story of this territory adds to his demand as a speaker as well as a performer.

This past June 21, Mowat appeared on stage at Aurora’s Town Park for a concert to mark National Indigenous People’s Day. As well as being a musical celebration, Mowat integrated along side the music ” a taste of the history people never learned in school” complete with bring a Wampum belt to explain certain treaty agreements.

Clayton Yates and Terry Wilkins round out the trio. As Mowat points out “We’re all veteran players and combined we probably have 125 years of experience, giving the flavour of music…”

The video below gives a sample of the kind of flavour we can expect when attending the Once in a Blue  Moon event. You expected to be entertained as well as coming away with that something extra that widening one’s perspective brings.
